Title of the training
Solid Waste Management
Duration
2 working days (12 lesson hours)
Purpose and scope
Solid waste management is one of the most important functions of organizations and local governments worldwide, and how this management is done directly affects public health, the environment and natural resources. Rapidly increasing population and changing living standards diversify both waste volume and waste composition, making it difficult to control and manage. As a result of the pollution caused by solid wastes and the increase in existing and potential risks related to it day by day and the decrease in natural resources, solid waste management is becoming increasingly important.
This training focuses on an assessment of the national and international framework and the current situation at the national level and an understanding of the current situation, while addressing solid waste management principles and models in general. The training aims to provide knowledge and skills in the relationship of waste management with resource efficiency and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from waste in line with current trends from a broader perspective.
Target audience
The main target group of this training is decision-makers, managers and technical personnel related to solid waste management in public institutions, especially local governments; managers and technical personnel with duties and functions related to solid waste management in the private sector, including everyone who is interested in the issue of sustainability in solid waste management in non-governmental organizations and at the individual level, who is working on this issue or who plans to do so.

Solid Waste Management training is given by trainers who have experience in preparing, managing and executing projects in the field of solid waste management and/or who stand out with their research/work in the field of solid waste management.
Objectives and learning outcomes
Those who have completed the Solid Waste Management training are expected to;
- Have comprehensive knowledge about solid waste management,

Delivery and method
Solid Waste Management is delivered as a face-to-face training. However, if conditions arise that prevent face-to-face training, the training may be delivered remotely by using the Me-Learning© online learning platform and the Actio© meeting management tool.
It is recommended to have no more than 20 people in each group to ensure active participation and effective learning in this training. In addition to transferring theoretical information on the subject, good practice examples and alternative solutions from around the world are examined, and methods such as brainstorming, group work and case study are used for exercises and practices to create alternatives for the production of innovative solutions at national and local levels.
Learning tools and materials
Training materials consist of presentations and case studies. Examples of good practices/projects of local governments in the world and at national level on integrated waste management models, waste disposal/recovery methods, waste management and resource efficiency relationship, strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from waste or documents consisting of relevant elements of the training content are used as learning material.
Audio visual and multimedia materials to be used in the training, templates, worksheets and other materials for exercises and practices are prepared by the trainer and distributed to the participants. However, if there is a sufficient number of hardware such as computers, notebooks or tablets in the learning environment, all materials are provided in a digital format and studies are carried out in digital context.
In accordance with our waste reduction policy, printed materials are not distributed in this training unless it is educationally necessary.
Assessment and evaluation
Before the training and when the training is completed, a questionnaire is applied to the participants in order to determine the level of awareness and knowledge on Solid Waste Management, either online or in print.
All participants who complete the training receive a certificate of attendance showing that they have completed the Solid Waste Management Training, with duration of the training clearly stated.
